Workshop seminar «Italian dream factory. Rossini's «Tancredi».
On Monday, March 28 at 15.00 in the Сinema Hall of Russian Institute for Art History, prof. A.L. Porfirieva, head of the music department, RIAH, will present another seminar of the series “Contemporary Music Theatre: development vectors”. The meeting will be devoted to the opera “Tancredi” by Gioacchino Rossini. Being one of the most popular music spectacles on the stage of St. Petersburg in the middle of the XIX century, “Tancred” today sounds only at selected festivals and is one of the special rarities. The history of medieval chivalry fired the minds of many at the time. Stendhal considered «Tancredi» as the best Rossini’s opera, while Carl Maria Weber, on the other hand, severely criticized it. The incredible complexity of the vocal technic of the opera for nowadays gives an indication of the high skill level of the singers of the time, and the specifics of vocal school. On the seminar will present the video “Tancredi” opera directed by Pier Luigi Pizzi, implemented in Florence Teatro Comunale in 2005. In the role of a knight Tancred – mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcelona. Behind the conductor’s stand – Riccardo Frizza. The video will be accompanied by commentary by a major specialist in Italian opera Anna Leonidovna Porfirieva.
All are invited to attend.
