Seminar «Russian buffoonery [Skomorokh]: Actual Problems of Study»
On Wednesday, November 29, at 15.00, in the White Hall of Russian Institute for the History of Arts Folklore Department present a seminar “«Russian buffoonery [Skomorokh]: Actual Problems of Study» (cycle “Folklore, Anthropology, Ethnography”). The main speaker: Andrey Argov, PhD. The seminar is continued studies of buffoonery [skomorokhs] and directly related to its laughter culture, which has been actively carried out by folklorists of Russian Institute for the History of Arts and which are still ongoing. A significant place in the report is devoted to the analysis of key issues in the studies of buffoonery by scientists of the XIX-XXI centuries. Problems of definition of the concept of “skomorokh” here in the Russian science, the historical origin of the word, questions of periodization in the history of the phenomenon in Russian culture, as well as ideas about it in the evolution of religious beliefs in Ancient Rus will be touched upon.
