Scientific conference to the 100th anniversary of the Theater Department «The Century of Russian Theater Studies»

On Monday, October 14, at 15.00 in the Green Hall, Russian Institute for the History of Arts a scientific conference “The Century of Russian Theater Studies”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Theater Department will be held.

In May 2020, Zubovsky Institute, the Theater Department marks the hundredth anniversary, as the Russian Institute for the the History of Arts informally calls. Without exaggeration, the history of the theater sector can be called Grand – it all began really grandly. In 1921, A. A. Gvozdev came to the theater’ history department (as the Department was then called). His colleagues are K. M. Miklashevsky, A. Ya. Levinson, S. E. Radlov, V. N. Soloviev, S. S. Mokulsky, V. N. Peretz, A. I. Piotrovsky. And in the 1920s, already, the science of the theater was formed, which will go down in history as the Leningrad theater, or Gvozdevsky, school. Therefore, celebrating the centennial of the Theater Department, we are talking about the centuries-old history of science itself. Accordingly, the conference program is in one way or another connected with the methodology of the study of theatrical art, the history of the sector and theatrical studies.
