G. Kovalevsky open lecture "Alexander Knaifel: poetics of hidden words"

On Wednesday, 2 November, at 14.00 in White Hall of Russian Institute for Art History, George Kovalevsky (PhD, research scientist, Music Department, RIAH) will present his peronal open lecture: “Alexander Knaifel: poetics of hidden words.”

St.Petersburg composer Alexander Knaifel, the author of about a hundred works in different genres is one of the most exciting and original artists of our time, a classic of Russian avant-garde. His works have been heard at prestigious music festivals practically all around the world. A. Knaifel bacame one of the first Russian composers who at the early nineties has been awarded the prestigious German scholarship DAAD, which allowed him to live and work in Berlin. In 1992 in Frankfurt am Main  with great success took place the Knaifel monographic festival. In 2015, the publishing house “Kompozitor *Saint-Petersburg” published composer book “Bridge to Eden” provided with interviews with him.

The lecture will be considered particularly creative method of work of the composer, his relationship with the Word and with a Number. You will hear fragments of Knaifel’ works 2000s, including works from preparing for the publication in Germany by ECM disc “Lukomorie”.
