E.B. Yakovleva personal open lecture: «On the research and exhibition project of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art» "B. I. Shukhaiev. Life and art".

On Wednesday, April 20 in White Hall of Russian Institute for Art History at 14.00, an expert on cultural values, Doctor of Arts Elena Yakovleva [principal research scientist dept. of actual issues of contemporary art, RIAH] will present her personal open lecture dedicated to scientific research and exhibition project of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art «B. I. Shukhaiev. Life and art».

Vasily Shukhaiev (1887, Moscow – 1973, Tbilisi) – famous Russian artist, Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR – lived a long, complex and full of life events, fully reflect the dramatic vicissitudes of the Russian artistic intellectuals of the twentieth century. The personal and creative life of the artist intertwined history, politics and culture of the pre-revolutionary and Soviet Russia, Italian pension benefits, Russian emigration in Finland and France, the re-emigration, arrest, decade convicted at the Kolyma camps and a quarter century of life in Georgia.

The works of V.I. Shuhaev now kept in public and private collections in many countries.

Moscow Museum of Modern Art – the first Russian state museum specializing in the art of XX and XXI centuries – has launched a “Shuhaev” project in 2014.

The first part of the project was a retrospective exhibition of works by Vasily Ivanovich Shuhaev exposed from September to November 2014 in the main building of the museum, located in Moscow, Petrovka street, 25.

“Shahaev” project also includes

• preparation and publication of an illustrated catalog of the Moscow exhibition (published in spring 2015),

• preparation and holding of the scientific conference devoted to different issues of the life and work of V.I. Shuhaev (Moscow, 21-22 November 2014),

• the preparation and holding of the exhibition of V.I. Shuhaev works at Tbilisi which prepared on the base of works from public and private collections in Georgia,

• preparation and publication of an illustrated catalog of the V.I. Shuhaev exhibition in Tbilisi,

• establishment of a fund of artistic, documentary, literary and expert materials related to the life and works of art V.I.Shuhaev.

Documentary photographs and reproductions of works of the artist accompany the lecture.
