Seminar “Electronic technologies for the transformation of the humanitarian sphere”

On Wednesday, December 23, at 15:00, an seminar “Electronic technologies for the transformation of the humanitarian sphere” (from the cycle “Electronic technologies — an instrumentarium for artistic practice”) will take place.

In the context of the actual issues of art history, everything related to the analysis of the humanitarian sphere developmental characteristics and functioning in contemporary, so-called post-industrial society and the perception of art objects related to this, directly, constitutes a sphere of active interest. The changing paradigm of the global mechanism of modern society functioning, the forms of social consciousness existence, especially such a specific area of it as the artistic space, the actively progressing tendencies of virtualization of entire spheres of life, make it imperative for the possibility of an expanded interpretation for the elements of the artistic process and transformations of its traditional models. Continuing in a natural way the vector of development of the traditional instrumental arsenal for the implementing the immanent tasks of the latter, the emergence of electronic technologies soon actualized the special role of this new organum, which were previously incomparable. And in this sense, the pathos for science of organology, bearing in itself a powerful base of the system of traditional connotations, nevertheless acquires other, additional angles for consideration and analysis.

The reports contain reflections on the evolution of artistic instrumentarium, as well as on the values created with its help. A more complicated, multifaceted interpretation of the problematic of the issue under consideration, associated with the emergence of electronic technologies, as a powerful creative palette in the practice of contemporary art is demonstrated.

The system of relations between the artist and the material, in a broad sense – both the text and the tools for its implementation — will be proposed to be considered, both from an academic standpoint and from the standpoint of a contemporary interdisciplinary approach.

The principal speaker and presenter is Maxim Ivanovich Karpets, PhD, composer, senior research scientist, Department of Organology, Russian Institute for the History of Arts. The seminar will be attended by invited guests, specialists of different profiles: composers, directors, theater experts, programmers, producers. The conversation will be attended by: Anton Valerievich Tanonov, Head of the Department of Special Composition and Improvisation of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, Marina Adolfovna Sen, research scientist, Department of Organology, Russian Institute for the History of the Arts, etc.
