Prof. Ivan Czeczot personal open lecture: «Some observations on the issue of space representation in painting the Sistine Chapel»

On Wednesday, 13 April in White Hall of Russian Institute for Art History at 14.00, prof. Ivan Czeczot, Ph.D. [Head of the Fine Arts and Architecture Department, RIAH], was present his personal open lecture: «Some observations on the issue of space representation in painting the Sistine Chapel».

  1. “Problem of space representation” in the classical art history. Direct vision and ways of transmission of three-dimensional space as the main subject of study within the framework of art tradition. Expanding the range of categories of space in the sciences and philosophy of the XX century.
  2. The nature of the work of Michelangelo. Criticism for theory of the concentration Michelangelo’s talent for sculpture. The concept of “spatial gestalt” (O. Spann). The features of such a gestalt with Michelangelo art.
  3. Sistine ceiling between the Renaissance and the Baroque. “Space”, “world”, “creation”, “becoming”, “history” as constituting of the picturesque spectacle of the ceiling. The problem of assessing the implementation of the whole.
