On Wednesday, February 24 at 14.00 in the Green Hall of Russian Institute for Art History Mikhail Nikitich Tolstoi will present his personal open lecture: “Vasily Kibalchich as a disciple of Alexander Archangelky the Grand”. Mikhail Tolstoi is an associate research scientist at the Russian Institute for Art History, St.Petersburg as well as a member researcher of the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco.

The lecture is devoted to the Russian period in biography of the famous American choirmaster Vasily Fedorovich Kibalchich, a disciple of the great spiritual composer Alexander Andreevich Archangelsky. Kibalchich biography as we know nowadays, divided into two periods – russian and foreign, are full of conflicting data. Living abroad, he used to hide his life details and adventures in Russia, moreover, he used to create a legend, which was a source for his foreign biographers. As a gifted and talented student of A.Arkhangelsky, Kibalchich transfered the significant peculiarities of his choral manner and technic to the United States ground, creating there a unique symphonic choir.

Lecturer for the first time will introduce the scientific status to the documentation which describe the Kibalchich’ Russian period of life, as well as archival materials from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Penza, San-Francisco, Prague, Geneva and London.

All are invited to attend.
