Karel Volniansky, Ph.D. оpen lecture: «On the Timbral Features of the Sonorics in the Contemporary Academic Music of Israel: based on the Music of Mark Kopytman and his Scholars»

On Monday, February 11, at 14.00 in the White Hall of Russian Institute for the History of Arts will hold an open lecture: «On the Timbral Features of the Sonorics in the Contemporary Academic Music of Israel: based on the Music of Mark Kopytman and his Scholars» by Karel Volnansky, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Music Theory, Composition and Conducting at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

The lecture will focus on the origins and specifics of timbres in the sonorics of Israeli contemporary academic music. Mark Kopytman (1929–2011) — an immigrant from the former Soviet Union, managed not only to integrate into Israeli culture scene as a significant composer, but also to educate a whole pleiad of students and followers who nowadays hold leading positions in the musical and cultural life of Israel. The music of M. Kopytman and his students, in the context of connection with the Jewish tradition and a contemporary Israeli cultural space, is the subject of this lecture.
