«Folk Song as a Subject of Science»: Scientific Conference on the 200th anniversary of Alexander Nikolaevich Serov
On Wednesday, January 22, at 16.00 in the White Hall of the Russian Institute for the History of Arts, the Department of folklore in conjunction with the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg, section of musical folklore holds a scientific conference «Folk Song as an Object of Science» dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Nikolaevich Serov. A talented composer, a fierce music critic and enlightener, A.N.Serov showed not only interest in Russian and Ukrainian folk songs, but positioned himself as an active researcher of folk music. The cycle of his three articles has a joint programic title, which speaks for itself: «Russian folk song as a subject of science».
