The exhibition dedicated to the 130th anniversary of of the birth of M. Milner

December 21, Russian Institute for the History of Arts will present an exposition dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of composer M. Milner. Michael Arnoldovich Milner (1886-1953) – one of the brightest representatives of the Jewish professional music that emerged in the mainstream activities of the Society for Jewish Folk Music in St. Petersburg-Petrograd (1908-1923).

Into the history of Soviet musical culture Milner entered as the author of the opera «Di Himlen brenen» (The heavens glow), which became the first Jewish opus in this genre in terms of story, language, and music. He was an author of music for more than 50 performances in the Jewish theaters in Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, Birobidzhan.

The anniversary exhibition presents only a small part of the documents and materials from his personal fund stored in the Cabinet of the manuscripts and includes 186 items since 1965.
