The exhibition «Edward Franzevich Napravnik (1839-1916). Based on materials of Russian Institute for Art History manuscripts cabinet»

From 11 November 2016 to 13 January 2017 Russian Institute for Art History held a photo exhibition «Edward Franzevich Napravnik (1839-1916). Based on materials of Russian Institute for Art History manuscripts cabinet».

Edward Franzevich Napravnik (1839-1916) being an outstanding musician, famous conductor, composer, musical and public figure – is a brilliant representative of the Russian artistic elite of its time. He rightfully occupies a special place in the cultural history of Russia in the second half of XIX – early XX century. Born in Bohemia (Beysht), as a Czech by nationality, Napravnik at his young age arrived in Russia, which later he has recognized as a second home. Being a conductor in the Mariinsky Theatre, as well as the permanent head of various symphony orchestras, more than half a century of his life he devoted to the art of music and has made an invaluable contribution to its development.

The photo exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the death of the great musician, there are presented with a photocopies of archival materials of Russian Institute for Art History manuscripts cabinet. Among the exhibits are the seria of photographic portraits of E.F. Nápravník and members of his family, a noble coat of arms, a folio from commemorative book (business diary) with a record of the death of Piotr Tchaikovsky, a fragment of the score of the opera «Dubrovsky». There are presented the most important publications of E.F. Nápravník as well.

 

Working hours of the exhibition: Monday to Friday, from 10.00 to 18.00.
