Scientific Conference "Petersburg. XIX century. Critics, writers, scientists and musicians about the music"

October 24-25 Department of Music of Russian Institute for Art History, conducts scientific conference “St. Petersburg. XIX century. Critics, writers, scientists and musicians about the music”.

The study of history – facts, processes, problems of musical culture and art of St. Petersburg scene – started from the beginning of the XIX century and continues to this day. Critics, writers, scientists, creators, artists of XIX-XXI centuries chose and continue to choose as a stimulus for their own intellectual studies and creative projects the personaly attractive and relevant to its time “objects” of musical culture, science and art of St. Petersburg of the XIX century. “Objects” are different, and they are numerous: from biography and personality of the creator (composer, performer, critic, scholar) to the product, the text, interpretation of controversy critical to scientific theories, the problems of historiography, etc. Our “heroes” – those, about whome wrotes and who writes. Our “questions” – these are questions polemically sharp, ambiguous, problematic that define and discuss contemporaries, memoirs, criticism, domestic and foreign scholars, composers, artists, filmmakers XIX-XXI centuries.

The conference organizers offer some research perspectives, the range in which the process of the conference can be extended:
