Mikhail Tolstoy personal open lecture: «M.A.Verbov the artist and his heroes»

On Monday, October 30, at 15.00 in the Green Hall  of Russian Institute for the History of Arts, Mikhail Nikitich Tolstoy [the researcher of the history of Russian emigration, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Associate Research Scientist] within the framework of the seminar «Issues and Methods of the Art Study», was present his personal open lecture “M.A.Verbov the artist and his heroes”.

In according to analysis of the materials sent by M.A.Verbov to the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco it became possible to be traced of a number of unpublished portraits created by the artist in the 1960s and 1970s in the USA. It turned out that Verbov was friends with a Russian emigrants family who came to the United States after fleeing to China in the 1920s. The amazing story of their adventures is revealed on the basis of an array of diverse documents. Five new portraits of M.A.Verbov’s work were found.
