The Department continues to work on the eponymous encyclopedia devoted to the study of the Northern Capital musical culture  (“Musical Petersburg, 1801-1862” The scientific discoveries, new facts, materials and sources associated with this work will be introduced into the scientific practice during the conference.

This year the conference will be held under the aegis of the “VI-th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum”, which is connected with the decision of the organizing committee to expand its thematic framework. We invite to participation not only musicologists, but also scientists who study St. Petersburg literature, fine arts, theater in their various connections with various tendencies of the “European” mode of artistic expression. Historical and cultural issues concerning to contacts and interrelations within the music world are welcome, such as follows: the work of entrepreneurs and concert agencies, invitations to companies, collectives, artists, exhibitions, the reception of the art of “foreigners” (Europeans in St. Petersburg and Russians abroad). As a general motive for speeches and reports, participants are invited to select the issues of the emergence, existence and interpretation of the notion of “cultural capital”.
